Thougts from a first time self-publisher part 31: post-fulfillment potential.

Welcome back.

Best Part of my week (so far):
I had the opportunity to go to CuseCon over the weekend. While I initially had planned to go as a vendor, readers will know that the timing has not quite worked out for that. I was very, very happy to just be an attendee though. I got a ton of playtesting in, played a ton of great games and prototypes, met some really amazing new friends and designers, and just had a blast!

Most stressful part: I’ve got a bit of the post-con blues thing going on. I’m also just chomping at the bit to finally be able to say that everything is in to the manufacturers for Super Snipers. Plan is for this week.

Financials: Backerkit up to $12,946. Spent some money to reserve a hotel for PaxU and reserve space at UnPub (a little under $500 all together). I also rush ordered new boards for Dog Days in time for CuseCon for about $60.

Post-fulfillment.

Last blog left on the cheery note of me being down about $30,000 after Super Snipers fulfills. Let’s talk about what can happen from here. Sticking with just this game, after fulfillment I will have approximately:

1000 units of Super Snipers (45 MSRP)

600 Expansion Packs (10 MSRP)

300 Acrylic Upgrade Packs. (20 MSRP)

..left to sell. At their full price potential, this is $57,000.00 worth of inventory. If it were that simple, I could make +$27,000 with this.

Of course, this is not what will happen, nor the entire plan.

For the sake of argument, let’s say that I make it through this inventory in the following manners:

Super Snipers Game: $28,350

20 free copies to reviewers/ giveaways, etc : $0

380 full-price sales at conventions or through my website: $17,100

100 direct to retailers at 50% off ($22.50): $2,250

500 through Distribution and Amazon sales at about 40% MSRP ($18): $9,000

Expansions: $4050

20 free copies to reviewers/ giveaways, etc : $0

280 full-price sales at conventions or through my website: $2800

50 direct to retailers at 50% off ($5): $250

250 through Distribution and Amazon sales at about 40% MSRP ($4): $1000

Acrylic Upgrade Packs: $5,600

20 free copies to reviewers/ giveaways, etc : $0

280 full-price sales at conventions or through my website: $5600

Total Possible Potential Revenue: $38,000

Note that this number could (will) go up or down relating to a number of factors such as differing sales numbers in the different categories, discounts, inventory that won’t sell, etc. There are also many costs associated with moving these products including advertising, warehouse fees, convention booth costs, etc. In short, take all of this as a mental exercise about possibilities.

Looking back at my initial projections in Parts 6 and 7 of my Blog series, you can see that I’m not all that far off from what I thought (I have no idea how I did that, I literally just looked back now) and that the potential for making this a lucrative endeavour is tied up in 2nd printings and future projects.

As always, I’ll keep you updated on the actual numbers as they come in. Thanks so much for following along. The Super Snipers Pledge Manager will be locking down on October 1st, but pre-orders will remain open for a while longer.

Galen.
